Anja Barwig

Anja Barwig (born January 29, 1984 ) is a German vaulter .

Anja Barwig began vaulting in her home town of Starnberg at the age of six, at ten, she was included in the first team of the club and started with this at two German championships. In 1999, Anja Barwig joined the first team of the vaulting club Ingelsberg , with which she scored numerous successes in national and international championships, including two gold (2000, 2003) and one silver (2001) at the German Championships and the world title in 2000.

After she won the vice-title in 2001. Since 2003, she is also unbeaten Bavarian champion. Her first professional success she reached at the German Championships 2004, where she finished in 3rd place. One year later she won the championship and in 2006 and 2008 she finished second. At the European Championships 2005, she won the title. In 2008, she won the bronze medal at the World Cup, after she has achieved in 2004 and 2006 respectively in 5th place. At the European Championships 2009, she won silver.

Anja Barwig lives in Herrsching and has two sisters. She is trained by Alexander Hartl . On November 6, 2010, she gave birth to her first child and ended her active career.

On June 12, 2012 she was awarded in Berlin by the Federal Minister of the Interior Friedrich with the Silver Laurel Leaf , for their athletic achievements.
